On 31 Aug 1847 when Mary Letitia was 20, she married Dr. Joseph HOLLINGSWORTH, in Surry Co., NC.368 Born on 27 Feb 1820 in Surry Co., NC. Joseph died in Surry Co., NC on 20 Jan 1887, he was 66. Buried in Mount Airy Methodist Ch.Cemetery, Surry Co., NC.

A story from the book "History of North Carolina" - "One day as he and some other young men were standing in front of the little office of Dr. Jones[Dr. Beverly Jones, Germanton], a beautiful young woman, riding with grace a spirited horse, passed down the road. He inquired who she was, but no one seemed to know her. "I will find out who she is and some day I am going to marry her, or I will never marry at all", he remarked. He later learned the girl was Miss Mary Leticia Banner, of Stokes County, and that she, in company with her father, was on the way to Salem."

"Doctor Hollingsworth was the physcian to the famous Siamese Twins who lived just two miles from Mt. Airy, and it was under his personal direction that an autopsy was held in Philadelphia, an investigation that proved a distinct addition to scientific knowledge. Several times he had expressed the opinion that the connecting ligament could not be severed without a fatal result. The autopsy fully corroborated his opinion. He was, however, on his way to the home of the Twins prepared to perform this heroic operation when word came announcing the death of Chang who survived his brother Eng about an hour." Mrs. Banner Dies as Car Skids Near Statesville Death is Laid To Heart Failure as Result of Shock Car Skidded When Driver Dodged Boy Declaring She Was Unhurt Under Auto, Mrs. Banner Dies Others Uninjured Body Brought Here Early This Morning:
Mrs. Maggie Newsome Banner, 54, of 5421 Waughtown street, died at 6 o’clock last night as the result of shoch substained when an automobile in which she was riding skidded from the road about two miles west of Statesville on the Taylorsville road and crashed against te embankment of a cut. Death came about 15 minutes after the accident, at which time Mrs. Banner declared that she was unjuried. W. E. Nissen, brother of the victim, was driving the car.
Mrs. Banner has spent the day with friends at North Wilkesboro in company with Mrs. K. E. Shore, Mrs. Edward Griffith and Mr. Nissen and the party was returning to Winston Salem when the accident occurred.
Mr. Nissen had pulled to the right to allow a truck to pass in the opposite direction, when a boy on a bicycle, who had been riding behind the truck turned in front of the car. Nissen swered from the road in order to avoid striking the bicycle, skidding into the cut and against the embankment as he attempted to right the machine. Although practically no damage to the automobile and no visible injury to any of its occupants was apparent. Mrs. Banner showed ill effects and in spite of her insistence that she was unhurt, other members of the party summoned a physician, who pronouned death as the probable result of shock due to high blood pressure from which Mrs. Banner had suffered for a number of years.
The body was returned to Statesville and later sent to Winston Salem, arriving at an early hour this morning. Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date.
Mrs. Banner was born in Winston Salem on July 12, 1871, and has been a resident of the city practically all her life. She was the daughter of the late C. F. and Bertha E. Nissen fo the late C. F. Nissen, her father being the proprietor of the C. F. Nissen Wagon works. She had attained prominence in club work in the city and was well known throughout the state. She is survived by three sisters, Mrs. E. C. B. Linville, Mrs. K. E. Shore and Mrs. W. E. Froelich; two brothers, W. E. Nissen and J. Francis Nissen. Mrs. Banner was a member of Waughtown Baptist Church.

On 9 Dec 1858 when Sarah Rebecca was 22, she married Dr. Edwin Fabius HOLLINGSWORTH, son of Joseph HOLLINGSWORTH, in Surry Co., NC.368 Born abt 1832 in Surry Co., NC. Edwin Fabius died in Surry Co., NC in May 1860, he was 28.

75. Wiltshire Monroe Cardwell BANNER. Born on 25 Apr 1843 in Surry Co., NC. Wiltshire Monroe Cardwell died in Surry Co., NC on 18 Dec 1905, he was 62. Buried in Salem Methodist Church Graveyard, Surry Co., NC.

Wilcher served in the Civil War as a Confederate.
Marriage of Wilcher and Cordelia took place in Mt. Airy, witnesses J. F. Moore A. R. Moore and Robert Hines. Cordelia was 18 yrs. old when she married.

On 23 Dec 1872 when Wiltshire Monroe Cardwell was 29, he married Cordelia "Delia" HINES, in Surry Co., NC. Born on 14 Jul 1853 in Surry Co., NC. Cordelia "Delia" died in Surry Co., NC on 11 Apr 1939, she was 85. Buried in Salem Methodist Church Graveyard, Surry Co., NC.

NOTE: All Cordelia's children were born in the farmhouse in Mt. Airy.

Conse was killed in a head-on collison on the Houston East & West Texas RR. His body was returned to Mt. Airy, Surry Co., NC for burial.
