The grantor retains rights to mines and minerals. Witnesses were Thomas E. McEntruff and Stephen Adkins. This deed was proved on February 6, 1884 and registered on 8 February 1884. 760

1880 Jun 1 - Mitchell Co., NC - Joseph Stanley, household #21, is on the census in Herrell's Township age 55 mother born NC, father born Va. and he was born NC farmer, Malinda age 54 wife, Gutridge age 19 son farmer, and Sissey age 16 daughter. 763

1884 Feb 6 - Mitchell Co., NC - Joseph and Malinda Stanley sold 56 acres(See Deed M-13, page 126) to John Kilmon for $470.00. This land adjoins Mack Garland and Wiley Gouge on Pumpkin Patch Mountain. Witnesses are D. A. Bowman This deed was proved on 6 Feb 1884 and recorded on 8 Feb 1884. 764

1888 May 19 - Mitchell Co., NC - Joseph and Matilda Stanley sold for $25.00 and parental love and affection 54 1/4 acres to son Guttridge S. Stanley adjoins land of Jonathan Buchanan. Witnesses were J. W. Wise, Notary Public. This deed proved on June 6, 1888 and the deed was registered on 15 Mar 1900. 765

1894 Dec 1 - Mitchell Co., NC - Joseph and Malinda Stanley to Rickles Stanley 40 acres for $500.00 in Herrell Township. This land adjoins J.W. Phillips, John Brown and Rick Hobson. The witness was S. F. Bidix. This deed was proved 17 Aug 1911 and registered on 17 August 1911. 766

1911 Sept 6 - Mitchell Co., NC - Joseph Stanley sold 59 acres to Nancy [Stanley]Street for $800.00. This land adjoins W. M. Gouge and includes the Stanley Family Cemetery, Stoneyknoll. Witnesses were A. R. Hall, Jesse Herrell, N. R. Wright and Garrett Street. This deed was proven on 7 December 1912 and was registered 19 December 1912. 768

bef 1845 when Joseph was 20, he married Malinda "Linda" GARLAND, daughter of Stephen Joseph "Steve" GARLAND (13 Apr 1803-6 Jun 1875) & Elizabeth "Betsy" McKINNEY (8 Sep 1805-28 Jul 1844), in Burke Co.(now Mitchell Co.), NC. Born on 22 Dec 1824 in Burke Co. (now Mitchell Co.), NC.757 Malinda "Linda" died in Mitchell Co., NC on 28 May 1906, she was 81.

1873 Aug 2 - Malinda Garland along with her siblings, Alex, Mack, Samuel, Matilda Whitson, and Mary Bowman sold 55 acres to John Garland for $5.00 along the Cub on Pumpkin Patch Mountain. Witnesses were S. M. Langhrum, George L. Beau and D. A. Bowman. This deed was probated on August 1873 and registered on 27 Feb 1878 after Steve Garland's death. 769
