In Superior Court: Petition to sell land & make assests

Joseph D. Coe, adm. of Sallie Bowles Decd
vs.
Susan Stanley, et al

The plantiff above named complaining of the defendants
alleges and says,
1st
That Sallie Bowles, late of the county of Surry, died on this
16th day of July 1894 and that he duly qualified as adminis-
trator of her said estate on the 23rd day of July 1894.
2nd
That on the 15th day of Aug. 1894 he sold the personal
property belonging to this said estate which amounted to the
sum of $23.20 which was applied to the payment of her just
debts and the costs of adminstration. For particulars see
report of sale filed in the clerks office on the 3rd day of
Sept. 1894. That there is only 9 cents now in the hands of
this plantiff.
3rd
That there is now out-standing debts against said defendant's
estate to the amount of $45.83 or there abouts, as this
plantiff is informed and believes that there is only about
$15.00 in said estate in so far as this plantiff is now able
to state.
4th
That the said Sallie Bowles died seized and possessed of a
certain tract of land at Stony Knowl [sic] in said county
containing five acres which is bounded as follows: by the
lands of Lee Stanley and W. M. McDowell, and is in this
plaintiff's opinion reasonably worth about the the sum of One
hundred Dollars.
5th

Coe, Leonard [sic] Coe, Doe Coe, James Coe, Thomas Coe, Plutina

That Elmo Stanley and Everett Stanley are minors and without
guardian and publication has been made for them in the Yadkin
Valley News, a paper published in Mt Airy N.C. according to
law, and this plantiff asks that a guardian ad litum be ap-
pointed to represent their interests in this action.
7th
That plantiff prays the court that an order be made author=
izing him to sell saif land on such terms as may seem to the
court just and right, because it will be impossible for the
debts of said deceased to be paid without selling the same

is prayed for, and for each other, and further relief as the
court may see fit and proper to grant.

When she died the other family members initiated a law suit against her estate in Surry Co., NC on 24 Feb 1896 called "Petition to Sell Land and Make Assets", Joseph D. Coe, adm. of Sallie Bowles, deceased versus Susan Stanley,et al. Finding this law suit enabled James E. Cockerham to put the Coe and Stanley families together. 216
