On 20 Aug 1856 when Mary "Polly" was 18, she married James BULLIN, son of William M. BULLIN Sr. & Sarah "Sally" HOLYFIELD, in Surry Co., NC.1239 Born ca 1838 in Surry Co., NC. James died in Surry Co., NC bef 1900, he was 62.

On 18 November 1858, in Surry County, James Bullen was married to Susan Laffoon, bom circa 1825, daughter of Marcus R. and Cynthia (Caudle) Laffoon. They had two daughters: Cynthia, born 1860, married Columbus Blevins, and Mary, born circa 1861, married Joel Wall. He volunteered in Dobson 18 September 1861, as a Private for term of twelve months in Company "B," Second Battalion, NC Troops. He was captured 8 February 1862, at Roanoke Island, NC, but was paroled at Elizabeth City, NC, 21 February 1862. He was captured again during the Battle of Gettysburg [1July through 3 July 1863], was confined at Fort Delaware, DE, until 18 October 1863, when he was sent to Point Lookout, MD. After parole he was sent to City Point, VA. His third capture occured 23 September 1864, at Fisher's Hill, VA, and he was again sent to Point Lookout, MD. Here he remained until exchanged 13 February 1865, at Cox's Landing, James River, VA. He was at Camp Lee near Richmond from 17 February 1865 to the end of the war. After the war he farmed in Dobson Township. His widow, Susan, applied for a pension 5 April 1902. She was 75 at that time. 216

John Henry Hardy, Jr., volunteered 4 May 1861 in Dobson as a Private in Company "A," 28th Regiment, NC Troops (the "Surry Regulars"). He suffered a wound at Chancellorsville, VA, 2-3 May 1863 and another wound at Gettysburg 1 July 1863. There he was captured and was a POW at David's Island, NY, and later at Fort Wood, Bedloe's Island, New York Harbour, and still later at Point Lookout, MD. He was paroled 3 March 1864 at exchanged at City Point, VA, three days later. He retired from military duty 4 February 1865 due to his Gettysburg wounds. He was a farmer in Dobson Township, where he and his family were living at the enumerations of the 1870, 1880, and 1900 censuses. In 1880 he is recorded as "disabled." He is buried with a military marker (which bears no dates) in an abandoned cemetery off Turkey Ford Road in Surry Co., NC. 216

J.L. McGee Dies At Age Of 91 - James Lemuel McGee, 91, died at the home of his son, J. W. McGee, Winston Salem, Route 5, near Friendship Baptist Church, at 10:50 o'clock Tuesday morning. He had been confined to bed since Christmas and had been critically ill for the past two weeks. He made his home with his son. The deceased was born April 25, 1845, in Patrick Co., Va.. His wife, who was Nancy Stanley prior to marriage, died in 1914. He was a member of the Flower Gap Primitive Baptist Church in Patrick county. Survivors include two sons, J. W. McGee and Joe McGee, the latter of Surry County; two daughters, Mrs. Nan Hudson, of Rockford, and Sarah Jenkins, of Winston-Salem, and several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted sometime Thursday from the Little Vine Church in Surry County, with interment following in the church graveyard.

- Funeral services for James Lemuel McGee, 91, who died Tuesday morning at the home of his son, J. W. McGee, Winston Salem, route 5 near Friendship Baptish Church, will at 11 o'clock from the Little Vine Primitive Church, Surry county. The funeral part will leave the home at 9 o'clock. Interment will be in the church graveyard.
