From "People's Press" of 27 October 1887 it is reported that James Wood's daughter, who is not named, died. No date of death or location is given. 1248

1040. Silas W. WOOD. Born in Feb 1837 in Surry Co., NC.1249 Silas W. died in Surry Co., NC on 9 Feb 1917, he was 80.1249 Buried on 11 Feb 1917 in Bear Creek Bap. Ch. Cemetery.1249

Silas W. Wood volunteered in Dobson, NC, 4 May 1861, as a Private in Company "A", 28th Regiment, NC Troops (the "Surry Regulars"). He was captured 20-30 June 1862, around Harrison's Landing, VA, and was confined at Fort Columbus in New York City Harbor. He was eventually sent to Fort Delaware, DE. On 12 July 1862 he was transported to Aiken's Landing, at James River, VA, where he was exchanged 5 August 1862. He returned to active duty 1 November 1862, and remained as such until February, 1865, After the war he farmed in Surry Co., NC, and drew a pension. 216

1041. Samuel "Sam" R. WOOD. Born in May 1841 in Surry Co., NC. Samuel "Sam" R. died in Surry Co., NC in 1912, he was 70.

Sam is a farmer living in the Dobson Township in Surry Co., NC. His estate settlement dated 14 Dec 1912 is recorded in Settlements Book #6, page 444. 216

Mrs. Z. Wood Passes Away At Home Here: Mrs. Clarice Jane Wood, 95, widow of Zacheriah Wood, died at home, 514 Argonne Boulevard, at 6:30am Sunday morning. She was in declining health for sometime and was seriously ill for about 30 days. Mrs. Wood was born in Surry County, NC May 8, 1850. Her husband Zacheriah Wood died October 17, 1921. Mrs. Wood spend most of her life in Surry County, NC until she came here to reside 24 years ago. Survivors include one son J. W. Wood; 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. The body was removed to the home yesterday afternoon where it will remain pending completion of funeral arrangements.
