Elkin - Oct 21 - Funeral rites for Mrs. Carrie Key Sheek, 68, who died Sunday at her home near Center, Yadkin County, after a brief illness were conducted yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock from Union Cross Baptist Church a few miles east of here by Rev. T. S. Draughn of Crutchfield, Rev. Mr. Norman and Sheets of Yadkin County. Interment was in the church cemetery. The deceased was a native of the Union Cross Community of Surry. She had been married twice, first to [James] Matthew Stanley of Surry who passed away about fifteen years ago and later to Mr. [J.W.]Sheek of Yadkin County who preceeded her in death a few years ago. Surviving daughters and sons all of the first marriage are Mrs. Novella Mayes and Mrs. Empress York of Mt. Airy, Mrs. Pleasant Cockerham, Braskas and Raskas Stanley, twin sons, of Rusk and Alvin Stanley of Mt. Airy. One sister and brother surviving are Mrs. Tex Simmons and Sawyer Key, both of this county.

Thomas William Stanley, retired farmer of the Rusk community, died at his home at noon last Thursday. He was born in Oct. 20, 1867 in Surry County, a son of Ed and Martha White Stanley. Funeral services were held at 2pm Saturday at Union Cross Baptist Church near the home. The Rev. Scales Draughn and Rev. Woodrow Wishon were in charge. Burial was in the church cemetery. Surviving are his wife, the former Geneva Hardy; two sons, Marvin Stanley of Elkin and Mallory Stanley of Rusk; two daughters, Mrs. Nannie Dunnagan of Rusk and Mrs. Iva Knick of Danville, Va.; 18 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
