1907 Jul 13- Surry Co., NC - John applied for the Cherokee lands claiming he was part Cherokee - My father was a son of Alexander Poindexter, son of John Poindexter, son of William Poindexter, son of [Captain] Thomas Poindexter who married Betty Pledge an Indian Maiden. 1451
John's application was rejected. John Henry Poindexter 's line goes back to Bond Veale Poindexter, brother of Capt. Thomas Poindexter. There is no evidence or proof of a Chief Donnaha in the Cherokee nation. Betty Pledge's ancestry has been proven and there are not any Indians in her ancestry.
