1907 Jul 5 - Surry Co., NC - Richard S. applied for the Cherokee lands claiming that he was part Cherokee - My Grandfather Alexander Poindexter was son of John Poindexter who was descendant from [Captain] Thos Poindexter who married Betty Pledge an Indian Maiden, daughter of Donahan an Indian Chief. 1624
Richard's application was rejected. Richard's line goes back to Bond Veale Poindexter, brother of Capt. Thomas Poindexter. There is no evidence or proof of a Chief Donnaha in the Cherokee nation. Betty Pledge's ancestry has been proven and there are not any Indians in her ancestry.

On 21 Mar 1922, Kary petitioned the court for her yearly "widow's allowance" in Surry County. It goes thus "We the undersigned jurors being duly summoned and sworn by J. F. Burrus,J.P., to allot said K. L. Stanley widow her years allowance out of the personal property belonging to said estate met at the home of said John W. Stanley on the 21st day of March 1922 and proceeded to allot to said widow her years allowance and the following is our report of the same. We find the number of the family to be the widow and two children(Ira,age 12 and Landrus, age 7) who are under 15 years of age. Grain drill,$15.00; Plows, $5.00; Grain Cradles, $2.00; Wagon,$5.00; Mules ,$150.00; Cows, $30.00; Pigs, $12.00;Harness, $5.00; Corn,$20.00; Meat,$15.00; Wheat,$20.00; Beds,$40.00; Sewing Macine, $20.00; Chairs, $50.00, Organ, $15.00; Range and cooking vessels, $50.00; Bureau, $6.00; and dishes, $10.00.
