This story was written by another descendant. The massacre happened sometime between 1780-1785 near the Tenn.- Ky. border. It was supposedly written up in newspapers in Tenn. somewhere around Knoxville, but such articles has not been located nor has any other documentation been found. John that married Euphia Morton has been documented in Surry County, NC. John's father, named John or his grandfather, named John, have not been documented in Surry County, NC on tax lists or on deeds or in other legal papers. This family does not have any Quaker connnections, per descendants, though there many Quaker Stanley families in the Surry County, NC area. Also, John's mother's name is not known by descendants, nor any further knowledge on his sister Rachel. It is not known what other family members were in Surry County, NC.

I am looking up some old tax records and ran across the Rickles Stanley papers you sent me in 1992 and looking at Nancy,s marriage to C.E G. You have as most people believed that Ezekiel's name is Calvan Ezekiel Garland . I have proof with 3 or 4 documents that it is Ezekiel L Garland which I believe is Lasurus . It took me over ten years to find this but I got lucky . Pension request , marriage recording record , affidavit telling how and where and date he was killed . He was a recruiter for Kirk but not listed. The affidavit said he saw his furlough papers and he was a lieutenant. A lot of Kirkes men were not recorded . Also John Gutteridge Garland , Ezekiel's father 's wife was Susan Whitehead . Susan lived to be 105 years old . Sarah Grindstaff was Johns father Ezekiel's wife .
